The Story Behind Showered in Hope

The Story Behind Showered in Hope

Elena Knicely|

About 1 in every 5 women in America struggle with getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to full term. This alarming statistic alone should cause us to pause and consider the magnitude of infertility and pregnancy loss.

However, this statistic only reflects primary infertility. Many women are caught off guard when their attempts to grow their family a second time are met with unexpected and heartbreaking challenges.

In fact, 1 in 20 women experience secondary infertility. When this reality is combined with the pain of miscarriage and pregnancy loss, the grief can feel overwhelming. It becomes a heavy burden that shadows not only a woman's heart, but also her everyday life and relationships.

The Scar That Cuts Deeper Than Flesh

Infertility is more than a physical struggle.

The wounds often reach far deeper than the body. Many women navigating infertility also face depression, social isolation, and strain in their relationships. The emotional toll can be devastating.

Yet despite the depth of this pain, many women suffer in silence. Some feel too afraid to speak openly about their experiences. Others share their stories cautiously, fearing stigma, shame, or reopening emotional wounds.

But what these women truly need is a safe space to be heard.

They need the freedom to speak about their grief honestly — with rawness, vulnerability, and compassion.

A Cautious Suggestion

If you are part of our Facebook VIP community, you know that our brand was created with a heart for adoption, foster care, and the many journeys into parenthood.

Our prints are hand-drawn with the intention of celebrating both the joy and the challenges of becoming a parent, and the unique path that brings each family together.

We believe art can communicate messages of hope without pretending that the road is easy.

When we were collecting suggestions for future prints, a thoughtful member of our VIP group shared the idea of creating a piece centered on infertility and loss.

It was a deeply sensitive topic — but one we felt called to approach with care.

Our hope was to create a hand-drawn print that weaves together symbols of infertility, loss, IVF, rebirth, and hope, so that women navigating these experiences would feel seen, honored, and cherished.

We also hoped the artwork could open the door for conversations — allowing women to share their stories and perhaps find comfort, support, and healing in the process.

The Design Process

Our artist and I began the design process right away. Together we explored meaningful symbols and imagery that could help tell this delicate story.

During our research, we discovered a heart with delicate swirls, often used to represent infertility, love, and enduring hope.

We included lilies, which are commonly used as sympathy flowers and symbolize purity, renewal, and rebirth.

Since the print was planned for a spring release, we added gentle touches of life and renewal through animals like bunnies and a turtle, traditional symbols of fertility.

The overall setting of the print takes place on a rainy day, representing the many tears shed by grieving mothers.

And finally, we included a rainbow — a powerful symbol of hope and healing.

It reminds us that storms do not last forever. Even after the darkest rain, there are rainbows waiting on the other side.

Looking Beyond the Storm

Showered in Hope means exactly what its name suggests.

It is a reminder to remain hopeful, even in the middle of life’s storms.

But it is more than simply encouragement.

This print is also an invitation — an invitation to tell your story without shame or guilt. Infertility and loss are not your fault. Your experiences matter, and your voice deserves to be heard.

When we begin to talk openly about difficult experiences, something powerful happens.

Our hearts grow.

A heart for ourselves.
A heart for others.
A heart for those whose stories are too often left untold.

And through that openness, hope continues to grow — even in the rain.

If you feel connected to this story, we invite you to explore our rainbow baby collection — a design created with intention, remembrance, and hope. Many pieces are nearly gone, but we would be honored to have one find its way to you.
